The new Thame Outer Circuit walking route

The Thame Outer Circuit is a new walking route that is now available for you to enjoy, providing an approximately 20 mile circular walk in the countryside around – and linked back to – our town.

The route has been created thanks to the hard work and dedication of members of the Thame & Wheatley Ramblers to encourage walking in the countryside as one of the key aims of the Thame Green Living Plan. Specific thanks go to Tony Clark, Ruth Cornish and Len Davidson who have played a significant part in developing the idea, plus Ramblers and others for testing the route for us all to enjoy.

Route now available to download

Leaflets of the route will be available from the Thame Information Centre soon, with plans to do an official launch later in the year, but you can download a PDF and mobile version already from our Walks page.

Most of the route is straightforward to follow, and waymarks will be added to posts in the coming weeks to help further with this. But we would also recommend use of the route guide and ideally an OS map.

And just a note: as many of you will be aware, parts of the route were affected by winter flooding – they are drying out now but sections remain muddy, so good footwear is advisable!

Send us your photos!

When you download the route, there are some sections that need pictures and we would love your help to fill these! As you get out and about exploring the route, please take some photos and send us your best ones to [email protected], clearly marking which point on the route they belong to. And if you have any comments about any part of the route, you can post these in the comments section below or contact us directly.

We will also soon be launching the official ‘Thame Inner Circuit’ – look out for more information!

  1. Many thanks to Ruth, Len and Tony, it is a wonderful path and straightforward to follow.

  2. Just walked the full route. Great route, lovely countryside, leaflet had good directions, one or two of the styles a little wobbly
